Light to Light Trail - Eden, NSW
Although still beautiful in some ways (those amazing red sea cliffs and crystal clear blue waters!) the walk has sadly succumbed to the ravages of the severe 2019/20 fires - and apparently some very poor land management. Having walked the track in 2017 pre-fires (see the gallery in "Outdoor Projects") we always remember just how amazing and beautiful the walk, forest and campsite were. But with so much of the vegetation and trees destroyed by fire and an almost complete lack of any attempts to remediate - the forest and trail is now littered with dead trees and overrun with weeds and other invasive species. There also appears to be an almost complete lack of any trail maintenance with numerous tree falls blocking the trail and vegetation overgrowing the trail in many places. Some beautiful places (e.g. Hegarty's Campsite) are now almost unrecognisable. But on the positive side the birds and wildlife are returning (albeit apparently with deer now in plague proportions) and Saltwater Creek campsite, which was protected in the fires, remains a lovely spot where you just might spot dolphins off the beach. And if you're really lucky (as we were) you can enjoying seeing whales as well as the ever present seals just off Green Cape!
